THS Families,

I hope this communication finds you and your family well.  We can’t say enough how much we appreciate the support of the Trojan Family during this challenging situation for everyone!  The kind words you have shared and the grace that you have shown us as we navigate through online learning together have not gone unnoticed.  Below you will find information on items that are pertinent to the students and families of THS.  There are 5 pages of information in this communication, so please read carefully.  The first portion is for all students/families.  The second portion contains Senior specific information.

Underclassmen Instruction - The last day for new assignments to be posted by teachers for underclassmen is May 15.  Instruction and support will continue May 18-22.  **May not apply to CCP & ACP Final Exams.

Grades - Students will be earning a grade (A, B, C, D, F).  The focus will be on assessing for learning.

Grades will follow the following scale:

    • 90-100 = A

    • 80-89 = B

    • 70-79 = C

    • 60-69 = D

    • 50-59 = F

    • Missing = 50 or Exempt based on communication with the teacher.  Depending on the total number of missing assignments, students may not earn credit for the class.

Credits and Semester Grades - There will not be exams for the second semester**.  Credits for the second semester will be based off of a 50/50 split of the 3rd and 4th quarter.  **This does not apply to all ACP/CCP courses.  Please communicate with your teacher for these courses about semester exams.

  • Example 1:  3rd Qtr A + 4th Qtr B = Second Semester A

  • Example 2:  3rd Qtr F + 4th Qtr D = Second Semester D

  • Example 3:  3rd Qtr A + 4th Qtr D = Second Semester B

Class Rank - Class rank has already been determined for the class of 2020.  For the classes of 2021, 2022, 2023 class rank will be frozen based off of the 1st Semester of the 2019-2020 school year.  The 2nd Semester of the 2019-2020 school year will not count towards class rank.  The plan will be to continue to calculate/adjust class rank beginning with the 1st Semester of the 2020-2021 school year.

Prom - Our Prom will be held virtually on May 8 from 8-10pm.  We are excited to have special guest Drew Baldridge perform live via Zoom.  He will be performing his song, “Senior Year”.  If you haven’t had the chance to listen to this song, I would encourage you to do so.  It has made the frequent rotation of my playlist recently as I think often about how to recognize our seniors.  We understand that this virtual prom is not what our students hoped for when they thought of the 2020 Prom, but we hope that the special guest and personal message from Drew will help to make this a special and memorable event for our students.  After Drew’s performance and announcement of the 2020 prom king and queen, there will be a virtual DJ with music for our students until 10pm.  After opening up this event to our Seniors, there is room for us to now include our Juniors on a first come, first served basis!  Here is a link to the survey for Juniors to fill out if they would like to participate in our 2020 Prom.  Please check your school email for important information about this event.  Zoom codes will be sent out via school email this week.  If you have survey questions please contact Mrs. Wright at wright-c@troy.k12.oh.us.  If you have prom questions please contact Mr. Becker at becker-s@troy.k12.oh.us.

Senior Recognition/Celebration - We have worked with a focus group of students, parents and staff to come up with ways to recognize/celebrate our Seniors.  We are currently working on providing a t-shirt for each Senior, a yard sign for each Senior, a special photo for each Senior who participates in our graduation ceremony on May 23, and the planting of a tree for the class of 2020.  There are also opportunities to participate in our social media spotlight for Seniors and an “adopt” a Senior facebook page.

Senior Social Media Spotlight - We understand that our Seniors are losing valuable memories of one of the most cherished times in their life.  We want to do something special to both honor them, boost morale and provide them with one more Senior memory.  We are asking parents to submit the following information, which we will run on our social media page(s).  This is entirely voluntary, a way for parents to see their high school Senior honored.

Please submit:

1 high-res photo of your Senior

Their name

Their high school activities

Their future plans after high school

Email them to: fong-d@troy.k12.oh.us

Troy City Schools reserves the right to edit any submission for length and/or content.

Adopt-A-Senior THS - This facebook page allows families to post information about their Senior and then allows an opportunity for other members of the page to “adopt” a THS Senior.  The “adopted” Senior will then receive a letter, card, gift card, snack, etc. from the person who “adopted” them.  We appreciate our community stepping up to lift the spirits of the class of 2020 with this page!  (Please note: This page is not sponsored or monitored by Troy High School or Troy City Schools.  All information shared on this page is at the discretion of each family.)

Please continue to reach out to us if you have any questions.  We are here to support you!

Go Trojans!

Dave Dilbone

THS Principal
